Hasan Jhan

Director

Hasan 'Jhan' Arslan is an emerging second-generation Turkish Writer/Director who has been making his mark in the film industry for over three years in Aotearoa. His keen eye for detail and dedication to his craft led him to write, direct, and edit the thought-provoking sci-fi short film 'Inter Alia,' which garnered recognition by being selected for five international film festivals. Jhan's artistic journey is fuelled by a desire to inspire fellow filmmakers to delve into their own cultural roots, create narratives that resonate with authenticity, and support indigenous filmmakers within their communities. With a strong ambition to challenge stereotypes and subvert expectations surrounding Middle Eastern representation in Aotearoa, Jhan fearlessly tackles societal norms through his storytelling. He strives to create a world on screen that he can be proud of, one that explores the depth and richness of his culture while fostering a sense of unity among diverse voices and a dynamic film landscape. 'The World Around Me' will be his first Writer/Director debut for a funded short film.
